Everything for which this whole post vilifies Nye is “tacit”, “implied”, and generally passive. At one point, they criticize him merely for existing and participating in life!!! They’re horrified that he “allows“ himself to be heard by other people as an actual successful and persuasive public figure. I’ll bet it’s HARD to be famous and do it well. Fortunately, none of the people writing this crap will ever be famous since they won’t “earn“ their way in by being appealing and, if they gained influence the more common way — total random luck -- they would be so tedious and annoying that nobody would listen anyway. I read every word and, apparently, their advice for Nye is to essentially bury himself alive somehow because they are under the delusional impression that he is the only thing standing between them and being famous and influential. That’s just not true. If Trump’s former friends would just get out of the bestselling way and stop publishing books, would I be a bestselling memoirist? Of course not! NO CHANCE.
Nonetheless, if we actually have any freedom left, then Nye is allowed to use this generally harmful politician for his extra ticket and he is allowed to be excited about outer space, even if other scientists are mad at him for not doing exactly what they tell him to do. I guess they’re allowed to publish their nasty article, too, and I’m allowed to say how much they irritate me and, really, that’s cause for major gratitude! Thank goodness we are still allowed to berate each other. Otherwise, there might be no public discourse.🎆🎇🎉
I agree with them that celebrity status is arbitrary and weird and gives some people a lot more influence than others. But if we ran around attacking everyone who got to talk and have other people pay attention to them, we’d be spending a whole lot of time on tearing each other down and not much time doing anything the least bit uplifting, kind, or nice to or for anyone or the planet. I’ve fallen prey to doing it myself now. Obviously, it’s easier to make fun of these nasty ’scientists’ than it is to go find what few remaining positive things there may be left to talk about in the world. I’ll try to teach myself to do the latter. These science people are hardly open to discussion right now so I’d only push them to dig in their heels further anyway. That’s all that happens when you scold people. Well, you also get those readers who already agree with you riled up for war or violence if that’s what you actually want.
