MAKE AMERICAN POLITICS COHERENT AGAIN: MODERATION, COMPASSION, REASON
Our two-party system is unsustainable. We have two sets of stands on issues that directly contradict each other more often than not. The alliances that comprise "Republicans" and "Democrats" have led to polarization, extremism, hate, negativity, cynicism, normalized dishonesty, and soul-crushing despair. I believe there are positive steps we can take to transcend this mess. Please help me discuss and evolve this belief and these steps into plans and change.
ABOUT ME
Trying to follow politics is breaking my brain.
I feel as if absolutely NOBODY represents my interests in the American political system anymore. Both parties are just massive coalitions cobbled together with constituent groups that are so different as to be fundamentally opposed to each other. This means that both parties spend their time essentially inventing total, utter fantasies that have little bases in reality and trying to sell them to voters. I'm not sure exactly how to improve. I'm not sure anyone knows the best way forward. But my best guess is that improvement will not come from the very most delusional of those illusion spinners, but from someone more moderate. They define the poles of discourse that dominate the media. If we are to find any helpful discussions, they're probably happening somewhere in the middle.
